Turkey

Turkey’s population is very young. That’s one of its best assets. The biggest part of the budget of Turkey goes to education. That is an excellent and promising step. Turkey’s future’s bright.

Today is May 19th Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.

It is the day when the great leader Atatürk landed in Samsun to start the Turkish war of Independence.

The first stop on the way to freedom and independence that changed the fate of a nation.

The struggle for independence that started in Samsum spread to the entire Anatolia.

The struggle that started with the Great Offensive in Afyon-Kocatepe, ended with victory in İzmir on September 9th 1922. Mustafa Kemal and his brave soldiers declared Turks’ final victory to the whole world.

The first ceremony in Ankara was held at Atatürk’s mausoleum. President Abdullah Gül and a delegation accompanying him laid a wreath at Atatürk’s mausoleum.

A minute of silence was observed and the national anthem was sung following which president Gül signed the visitors’ book. “Turkish youth is determined to exalt our country” Gül wrote.

Citizens are visiting the mausoleum after the official ceremony. Ceremonies attended by state dignitaries continue at May 19th stadium. Joyful ceremonies will also be held in Samsun.

Celebrations in İstanbul are held at Turkish Telecom Arena. This great day is also joyfully celebrated in Izmir, other major cities, Turkey’s diplomatic missions abroad and in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Best regards,

Cem
